Some basic info about Meta 8D Because some of you were anxious for knowing something about her And because I'm lazy and didn't finish the last items of her complete profile BD (I'm working on other's profiles too, I just can't have all of em done ;3; )
Just in case, for those who don't remember her, she's a Conqueror of Shamballa OC o3o/
I'll be submiting more RFs with other charas info soon o3o/ Like Narella, Viktor and some others
The history of woman drs in Germany is a bit more Complex
Dorothea Erxleben was tecnicaly the first german female Docter she was trained at home due to a special dispensation by Frederick the Great (then King) In January 1754 she submitted her dissertation titled "Treatise on Academische too swift and pleasant, but so often uncertain cure the diseases" one. On 6 May the same year she appeared in the doctoral examination hall, which she completed with great success Josepha von Siebold (1771–1849), was the first credentialled midwife in Germany.
In 1814 Charlotte Heidenreich von Siebold presented the Grand Ducal Medicinal College in Darmstadt from the examination as midwife and could exercise from then on obstetrics. 1817 PhD in her casting to work About the ectopic pregnancy and ectopic pregnancy in particular for "doctor of obstetrics". Shes considered the first female DR in germany
Dorothea Schlözer (Philosophy, 1787 [without a doctoral dissertation]), Sofya Kovalevskaya (Mathematics, 1874), Julia Lermontowa (Chemistry, 1874), Margaret Maltby ( Physical Chemistry , 1895), all in Göttingen , and Catherine Windscheid (Philosophy, 1895 in Heidelberg ), Elsa Neumann (Physics, 1899 in Berlin ) and Clara Immerwahr (Chemistry, 1900 in Breslau ) were other women who received a doctorate degree (doctor as a level of expertise not as in they where drs)
, Hope Bridges Adams Lehmann was the first woman in Germany who completed her medical studies as an auditor with a state exam. Her degree in Leipzig in 1880, was not officially recognized. Then she completed her doctorate in Bern and received 1881 in Dublin, the British approval . and was the first nurse practitioner and gynecologist Munich. On 20 April 1899, women in the German Empire were for the first time officially admitted to the state examinations in medicine, dentistry and pharmacy. Dr. phil. Barbara Renz said to have been the first woman, whose doctoral degree, which she had purchased in Rome in 1902 in the Kingdom of Bavaria was recognized. The vast majority of guest students attended the Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Berlin
the Grand Duchy of Baden was the first German state to make full access to higher education possible for woman. By a decree in 28 February 1900, Rahel Straus , born Goitein studied, in May 1900 as the first woman at the Medical Faculty of the University of Heidelberg (one of the universitys opened to woman by decree in 1900 and graduated in 1907) Many of the early university attendees were jewish) On 16 May 1904 the state of Württemberg king issued a decree that "rich nationals females may study in same conditions and in the same way as males at Tuebingen University" . At the Universities of Prussia female medical students were first admitted in the winter semester of 1908 / 1909th
In 1913, about 8% of all students were female, and 1930, this proportion increased to about 16%
Now Then Try as I might I cannot seem to find any evidence of German female surgeons. However I DO know that woman where just starting to break into this field in the 1970s in America. As for genetics…. I could not find any female geneticists before the 1940s… But if you truly wish to make Meta a geneticists you should know that a lot of what counted as genetics at that time was hogwash about superior and inferior races. Now onto the age question. Of the two earliest female MDs one was 29 the other was 27 The Weimar republic had structured schooling through age 18 There is no way someone will become a dr in two years It would be dangerous I know you say meta is a prodigy. But Pretty much all these woman where prodigies. I know Meta’s Family where DRs. I am taking that into account. Both my parents are DRs and both had a DR father. One even had a DR mother too. My parents where in a special accelerated program leading to 7 years of med school (while most people do 8) the others in the accelerated program took 6 years (my parents didn’t due to dad changing the type of dr he wanted to be for research to clinical) and mom getting really sick for awhile) both graduated at 25. (that in and of itself is extradenary) Then they had to do residency (where you study the particular specialty you want to have) My mom took 7 years of that my dad took 6. (mom switched because she couldn’t handle watching babies die)
Just so you know it would be impossible for an English family to move to Germany in 1915 World war I was going on in 1915 England and Germany where on opposite sides of the fight. there would be no way anyone in Germany would allow an English family to move in around then. Also her Relatives being Nazi drs could not happen since Nazism was illegal in 1915
Just taking this opportunity to answer you spam of messages in a single one u3u/
I know how medical world works, but I have all the details about Meta's past already thought, and everything makes sense from what I've seen with real medicine students. Just pointing some things apart from that:
-There was a lot of cases of students of medicine that did their careers in 3 years, a lot of em. I won't change that fact in Meta because I know it's totally possible, more if all her education in school was bassed on medicine. You say that "at this time period"....but you don't consider that, for example, tecnology like the one Alfons used in the "ship" that went to Shamballa and also the prosthesis that Hoho made for Ed (in OUR WORLD) were technologies that even now days are really exceptional.
-Also, I have to repeat, the history will always talk about the people that were successful, not about the ones that tried and failed, or also the ones that brings the idea to the ones that had successful. Many women were pertty succesful in many of the things you mention, but since they worked for males, they took all the credit and the women doctor weren't even mentioned when the moment to "give credit" arrived.
-One of the ways many people migrated to Germany in the middle of the war was as spies, or investigators required by military or paramilitary government as well. You can tell it's betraying your nation, and well, that's what Meta's dad did in fact. Payment and "better opportunities" are things that move people for real.
-When I say Meta's specialties are surgery "and genetics", about the last one, I mean that this field is where she has facilities (in fact she had to have facility there because she had to help the movement her step father and other nazi doctors were leading in that field). Of course, at this point she "should" be in residency as a main (male) doctor assistant, but due to many circumstances she's about leaving Germany.
Aside of all these points, I must ask you to don't spam my inbox with things about ONE and just one of my charas plz, because it seems a bit obsessive. I have a bazillion of charas that you can see and appreciate. Meta is not the only one, nor the most developed. Also, I told you that I'll post her profile later AND already answered all your previous questions, so stop asking things for a while plz. Thanks u3u/
I don’t doubt you know how the medical world works now a days in your country, but Weimar Germany seems very different. Things that may make perfect sense with real medical students you’ve seen now-a-days may make zero sence in the context of Weimar Germany.
Yes there are cases of people doing medicine in 3 years. But are any of those cases woman from Weimar germnay? I have consisted the fact that the ships they were building and the prosthetic limbs. Edward’s limbs where made by hoho and it says in the movie guide book he made them influenced by automail As for the ships… A lot of the innovations required in order to make rockets like that where a matter of ideas for how to put things together a bit differently or how to use fuel a bit differently. These could have been thought of by alfons and his friends and then lost only to be thought of by other people later. But everything else in the movie stays consistent with the time period.
I agree history will talk about those who are successful. Are you saying that meta tries to become a dr and fails? If not I don’t understand how that is relevant I agree that woman working under male drs sometimes did not get credit. However being a DR or not being a DR are pretty clear cut things .
Do you know how many people migrated to Germany? Or families? I can tell you that spying doesn’t often involve moving an entire family into the enemy country. That would be WAY to conspicuous The nations at the time had INTENCE nationalism that was part of the problem that caused world war I People didn’t often betray their nation. It might be helpful to look of spies during world war I In addition why would Germany believe that her family was really betraying England? And how did her family get out without being executed for treason
Ah so you’re saying they aren’t actually something she specializes in but something she had hoped to specialize in I’m focusing on this one character because like you said it seems she needs the most work. Also Shamballa and Weimar Germany are a bit of a specialty of mine. I’ve spent huge amounts of time Studying You told me it would be awhile before you posted her profile, So I thought I’d critique what was here in the mean time.
I'm not sayong I bassed off Meta's college life in actual medicine students, I said I have reference from them to know that what I stated is correct.
Also, summarizing all the other points, you say "influenced by automail"....well, yeah, it means that being influenced by whatever from an impossible world like FMA's, you can do, in this world, things that are not possible with the current technology? No, that's no how it works IMO. Even nowadays automail is an inconceivable concept, because of the infections, the TOTAL incompatibility of the metal with the human body (human body rejects totally materials like that, that's why scalpels are from certain material or even the screws doctors use to fix a broken bone are from certain material). Same goes for the ships. It's not only a combustible management thing. There was also machinery and material concepts that, in our world, were just conceived and successfully developed after 1980. Even then you can see them working perfectly in early's 1920. That's why I say FMA: CoS doesn't stick 100% to our world rules, it's pretty evident if you analyze it for a while; it stick in some level to FMA world too. Obviously things like the society (when you hear how Alfons talks about how disgusting was loosing the war when they had all the power to win) match perfectly this time period society, but other things don't. The time gaps for example.
In some way the basis of CoS is moving things and bending rules as it results most convenient. It's not my case, but it applies in many the aspects I mentioned above, the ones that revolve canons.
About the thing of the story, what I meant is that maybe you can spend your whole life investigating something, let's say horses genetics, and you have certain theory but you can't prove it because you don't have supplies nor monetary support because you're not a popular scientist that studied in the most prestigious college of your country. You won't have opportunities EVEN if you discovered something special that nobody else did. Maybe some years later a famous scientist will find your idea and prove it and take all the credit; and voila, this person will automatically enter in the story of world's science, and the history will talk about him, not you. That's the concept I'm talking about. Meta IS already a doctor, it will never change. What I am saying goes together with what i explained above. If world "maybe" ignored the fact that in 1920 limbs of metal that human body doesn't tolerate and ships with 90's technology were possible, a young woman becoming doctor was also pretty possible.
About the migration thing, I think you misunderstood what I said. I'll put it more clear: German government offers Meta's father an important position as leader investigator; he accepts, takes all his family and move to Germany as fast as possible. It's betraying England from my POV. It's not a good thing, but well, many people do whatever they can to survive. Also, you say that Germany and England were enemies and all and were in the middle of a war. But don't forget Ed moves pretty freely between England, Austria, Germany, France and other countries without ANY problem, and he's considered English. Let's not even mention the fact Alfons does know he comes from England, and he's ok with it; same with Nazi!Hughes. So I don't see your point. And yeah, again, Meta's specialization IS surgery, but the fields of investigation she was prepared to work with involves genetics too. I hope it's clearer now.
And no, believe me, other of my charas are more interesting and have a full developed past and future and personality. Also, sorry, but if you couldn't take into account something basic like how CoS avoids certain techno, reality and society rules of this world to make its plot work, I can't see you as a specialist of this topic. Study don't give you that; common sense does. You need both of them to analyze something.
Like I said correct in one time in place is not correct in another I’m saying Ed’s prosthetics are only ahead of the times because Hoho came from Amestris. And actually the ships from shamballa are pretty consistent with the materials of the time To quote the movie guide book : [link] Also you are a bit mistaken about where prosthetic technology currently is [link] Saying that you can do whatever you want with Meta because of these two things is invalid, because as you can see the movie was very very careful to fit these two aspects to the time period to a great extent But why would the German government offer him a position. It’s not the kind of thing the German government did at the time Actually Ed moved after the war. (because of his interest in rockets) Also Its very unlikely Ed in our world and Alfons where related He chances of a German kid like our world Ed would be if he was related to Alfons living in London with someone who knew the military of England like Hoho did is pretty much zero! If Alfons was the brother of OW Ed it would also make no sense for his color pallet to change like it does while OW Ed’s stayed the same. Also Alfons would have been much more likely to believe Ed’s stories about his world considering the fact that someone who looked pretty much Exactly like his dead brother showed up Yes since your other characters are so developed why would I focus on them? As you can see I have used both study and common sense in all of these.
No, you didn't get my point about the ships. That flying technology was not available at this time period. Something like the plane Alfons put Ed at was the greatest flying technology of that time. To talk about your guidebook also, the one of CoS, a "rocket boom" doesn't mean anyone was successful on it, it just implies that everybody was crazy and excited to make it possible. Actually a "ship" (or any kind of flying vehicle to move more than 2 persons) was materialistically impossible. You can see yourself that the only development that was made from the rocket technology were the missiles of the WWII, and it was almost 20 years after the time we are talking about. Also, your Automail guide doesn't make more than proving what I'm saying with that bionical arm article, that stays clearly that an arm that can move according to the owner's desire won't (in this case wasn't going to be) possible till 2009....don't you think that if any of these doctors that took care of Ed noticed he had this limb that could move according to his desires it would be developed long time ago?
All of this just is for noticing that FMA has always a relevant amount of fiction, it won't always stick to reality or our world rules, if not it wouldn't be a fiction, it would be a veridical story. So, if there's a certain level of fiction and "things allowed" for the canons charas or in profit of the plot, it must be the same for EVERYBODY there, canons and not canons. If I stick so hardly to the reality while the canons don't do it so hardly, it will be a mess (it would be the same if it were the opposite thing, if all the plot were strictly historical and I put, for example, Meta as Hitler's wife or something crazy like that).
About the Ed and Alfons thing, I think you misinterpreted what I said. I never talked about Ed and Alfons being brothers, I was saying that it seems a bit strange that Alfons were in certain level resentful with English people, but at the same time he cared and appreciated Ed lots, and considering Ed was supposed to be english, it doesn't make a complete sense for me.
About German government offering Meta's father a position, it was a pretty common thing, searching for brilliant minds to solve problems of the own country (even nowadays it still happens); the things is that it depends on the person that is going to be hired if decides to take the job or declines it. Nationalism is not everybody's cup of tea. You can say "But then what he did is wrong", and of course it is XD I never said otherwise. But hey, nobody can be perfectly goody-goody, and also people always have their own reasons to do "things that are not right" that not everybody will understand. That's all I can say.
And again, plz, wait till I update Meta's profile plz, because even if I have any changes I can't just forget my schedule and use my time to answer all your doubts. You can say whatever you want then, but for now, gimme a break I need it.
